New Fave....Warpaint.

My bestest buddy, who lives on the west coast of the US, brought this band to my attention a week or so ago. I've since got their new(ish) EP "Exquisite Corpse" and we both adore it. They may not like my description of them, but they're lo-fi, melodic and haunting. The kind of sound that can only come from the dark underbelly of the Californian music scene. Forget the usual soft, over produced LA stuff. This is dirty, raw and ear catching. It has a great "recorded in one take" feel. All the songs sound like the band actually played and recorded together without tons of overdubs.

If you only have time in your busy lives to only check out one of their songs, make it "Billie Holiday" - just beautiful. Plus has a great spin on the Smokey Robinson written "My Guy" which has previously been performed by Mary Wells, The Supremes and Aretha Franklin.
